It is also hoped there will be a dedicated space for those wishing to contribute or get help from other attendees on using the WordPress platform.

If you are new to contributing or able to help with some of the tasks being specifically designed for the event, please email dublin@wordcamp.org and include ‘contributing’ in the subject.

On Saturday 19 October 2019, the main conference agenda will run from approximately 9am to 5.45pm. Talks and workshops on the main agenda will continue after the Contributor Session on the Sunday through to about 5.30pm.

What is contributing?

The WordPress.org platform is run, maintained and developed by people living and working across the world, all giving of their time and skills to make available a web platform to anyone who wants to use it.

At Contributor Events, attendees can find out about how they can contribute to the open source, global WordPress project, collaborate with new and existing contributors, and learn about the other teams to join. These events take place all across the world, either as standalone fixtures or as part of a WordCamp.

The WordPress project is made up of a number of teams working on areas ranging from core and theme review to design and marketing. Come join the worldwide community and make WordPress.

Setting up your tools to contribute

The first thing you will need is a WordPress.org user account and access to the Make WordPress account on Slack. You will also need some online tools and software access to contribute. There will be other attendees available throughout the event to help get you set up on these key tools.

There are some additional tools depending which team you would like to contribute to, for example, a Google account and a Trello account to access a team’s shared Google drive or project management board. You can set up many of your accounts before the event and there are guides available to help you get started.

If you would like to contribute to teams, including Core, Coding Standards, and WP-CLI, you will need to set up a local development environment. If you would like help setting up an environment using VVV on your laptop during the event, please email dublin@wordcamp.org at least a week before to help arrange this and include ‘contributor core’ in your subject.
