What is WordPress?

WordPress is an open-source software used to create beautiful websites, e-commerce sites, blogs and web apps. Currently, 35% (and growing) of websites on the web use WordPress, from hobby blogs to the biggest news and sports sites online, such as, DCU, Leinster Rugby, Marks and Spencer for Business, The White House, The New York Times, TechCrunch, Sony Music, The Walt Disney Company and many others.

The benefit of WordPress being open source is that it allows web developers to create WordPress extensions, known as ‘plugins’. There are more than 45,000 plugins that can help your website meet your needs. You can turn a basic WordPress site into an e-commerce store, display photo galleries, add contact forms, embed forums, track analytics, and so much more. All without even touching the code if you don’t want to.

Finally, WordPress is well known for its sense of community. Hundreds of thousands of designers, developers, content creators, site owners and curious people gather at monthly WordPress Meetups and WordCamps in 436 cities worldwide.

More than 1,563 locations of WordPress meetups marked on the world map.

What to expect?

Dress like it’s casual Friday…

WordCamps are casual conferences. So, dress comfortably and plan for any possible weather – we’re in Ireland after all! 🙂

Our participants (got your tickets yet?) will get WordCamp Dublin 2019 swag, as well as other goodies from our amazing sponsors. We are considering our environmental sustainability so reviewing what swag is produced.

The atmosphere at a WordCamp is quite relaxed, and you can attend the talks or workshops of interest and hang out with new friends or chat to sponsors. At the main breaks, we will have a wide selection of various snacks and fruit to keep you going during the weekend. Not forgetting lunch on Saturday and Sunday, all included free, with your ticket.

Presentations and workshops will be by WordPressers who are passionate and knowledgeable about their topic, from both our local area and further afield. Speakers and workshop leads spend hours putting together great content for you, and after each talk, they will be around to help answer your questions.

WordPress is about people, and WordCamp Dublin 2019. Some attendees might be running large scale businesses and others sole business owners. We’re all the same, beginners or experts. We’re the WordPress Community! Finally, we strive to make inclusivity a priority at WordCamp Dublin 2019. Want to speak or check the line-up? Speakers.

We also want everyone to feel safe and welcomed at WordCamp, and ask that all participants read through, and accept our ‘Code of Conduct’.

And don’t forget the WordCamp After Party (well actually mid-way) on Saturday evening! Nothing is better than a long day full of interesting information, then meeting new and old friends in an Irish bar to share experiences.

Who are we?

You will meet us at WordCamp Dublin 2019. Or maybe you’ve already met us at one of our past Meetup events or previous WordCamps in Belfast and Dublin.

We’re a group of WordPress enthusiasts from or working with the island of Ireland who believe in the community so much that we decided to invest months of work to make this event possible! We are supported by members of other WordCamp teams and project leads within this amazing WordPress community.

Talk to us in person at the event or join the volunteers team to help us make this WordCamp even better. No previous experience required. Just a smile or two!
